Photos of the Chanch Fire 8/7/09 in Jim Hogg County, Texas..... The fire started roadside on Highway 16 southwest of Hebbronville and was driven by coastal breeze winds of about 20 MPH through ungrazed tall grass mixed in with various amounts of mesquite. The fire behavior was VERY ACTIVE on the flanks and head when we got there but we were on our way to the Rio Grande City Fire and after lining out a helitanker we split before getting any pictures. These pictures were taken about 1.5 hours later after the helitanker and local engines had knocked down most of the flamage.
